What is with all the different safety glasses lens colors? How does one choose the correct safety glasses lens color?
Pyramex Safety, a popular manufacturer of safety glasses, provides a very helpful guide for selecting the correct lens color. “Normally the darker lens colors such as gray, coffee and the mirror options are used to reduce sun glare.” And there are “a variety of lens colors that are used in indoor applications such as amber or infinity blue.”

Safety Glasses Lens Colors
Clear Lens – general purpose for indoor applications that require impact protection.
Gray Lens – commonly used in outdoor applications. Offers protection from excessive glare.
Amber Lens – commonly used in indoor, low light applications. They enhance contrast.
Orange Lens – offers high contrast and low light image resolution.
Infinity Blue Lens – commonly used in outdoor applications with excessive yellow or sodium vapor light.
Indoor Outdoor Lens – commonly used where it is required to move between indoor and outdoor applications.
